Dance lovers, mark your calendar- Nov. 11, 2011
Sing-a-long Hair, a interactive movie/live theatre & dance extravaganza!
Let your hair down and let the sun shine in at the Denman Island Community Hall on November 11, 2011, yes, 11/11/11. Come and celebrate this glorious moment in time and space by; singing our hearts out along with the movie HAIR , offering our prayers and intentions and, dancing like no one is watching!
The 1979 movie "Hair" is based on the Broadway musical that rocked the nation. The story is a powerful tribute to t
he spirit of the 1960's culture, music, class, race and war. The antiwar sentiment of the 60s still holds up and, is relevant especially now. Augmenting the action on the screen will be dancers (Methuselah Dancers, Cathy Stoyko, Laurie Montemurrow and friends), NOVA hoopers, Hari Krishnas and the “Age of Aquarius” choir. The lyrics will appear on the big screen enabling all to join in. Audience members are encouraged to dress up and sing-a-long, dig up your hippy kit and wear flowers in your hair.
Following the movie celebrate and dance with Lasquiti Island DJ the Beat Farmer. At 11:11 Taiya Curle will share an intentional dance and lead a prayer circle to mark our entry into a new cycle- awaken to the truth of love, peace and hope for all of mankind. What a way to usher in the Age of Aquarius!
Tickets for this event are $15 advance at The D.I. General Store and in Courtenay at Bop City Records or $20 at the door. Doors open at 7:30PM and show starts at 8PM, by donation after 10PM. The movie portion of the evening is timed for off islanders to connect with ferries and the hall is within walking distance. This is a family event (alcohol-free) and a fundraiser for the Denman Island Memorial Society (DIMS) who are working very hard to establish a green cemetery on the island. Progress is being made but there are many
hoops to jump. What a fun way to support this group!
