Abbey Studio Winter Hafla 2016

I'm looking forward the the next Abbey Studio Hafla!
Come out and enjoy a warm and inspiring evening of dance in Cumberland.

Mark your calendars, the next Abbey Studio Hafla is happening on Friday Dec. 16th, 2016. This bi-annual Solstice celebration/recital/dance party/studio fundraiser has become a tradition in Cumberland for 10 + years!  Dancers, dance lovers, friends, family and community are encouraged to come and enjoy a warm, casual evening of dance performances by local dancers (teachers, students, groups) from the Comox Valley and beyond.
Hafla' is simply the Arabic word for party. Haflas have become a tradition in 'Belly Dance' dance communities world wide. At the Abbey Studio Hafla you can expect to see various styles of belly dance, Romany 'gypsy' dance, Persian dance, modern, ballet, burlesque...

This year the line up if filling up fast with performances by; Caresse Nadeau with her burlesque class, Bridgit Salas, Lisa Hamilton, Tracey Hoopla, Lynette Harper (perhaps with special guest dancers), dancers from Hornby Island (group dance and duet), Heather Hillberry with her Denman Island class doing an Egyptian Cane dance and, Farima's Comox Valley Simorgh Collective will be dancing 'Queen Peacock'. Also, my Monday and Thursday classes will be sharing new dances; a 'Bellywood' candle dance, a snakey tribal fusion work in progress and, a Russian Romany group dance. Usually between dancing with groups/classes and MC'ing the show I am too 'full on' to do a solo dance but, this time I have something I'm looking forward to sharing.
The evening starts with a finger food/dessert potluck followed by two sets of dance performances. Bruce, Rebecca, Amy and friends have been working on some tradition Middle Eastern music and will be playing between sets and following the performances.
Doors open at 7:30, dance performances between 8:30-10:00PM, live music and dancing for all 10:00-11:00. Admission is by donation at the door, suggested donation $10, all ages are welcome. Feel free to bring food and drink to share.
