Welcoming the Winter Solstice and Connecting through Dance

Class sessions are coming to an end, the Solstice and Winter holiday season are upon us which means the Abbey Studio Hafla is fast approaching. This dance recital/studio fundraiser/pre Solstice gathering has become a biannual tradition at the Abbey for over 10 years. Each year of teaching and organizing this event I come to appreciate my dance sisters and our supportive community more and more.

Join us on Friday December 14th for an inspiring evening of dance in Cumberland. Plan to arrive shortly after 7PM to get a good seat, check out the bazaar and enjoy food and drinks. We traditionally start the evening with a finger food potluck, optional to bring food and drinks to share. The performances will start at 8PM and continue until about 10 PM with a short 15 min break between sets. Classes and groups will be sharing new dances and works in progress along with performances by guest dancers from the Comox Valley and beyond.

*Hafla is the Arabic word for party, a gathering with food, music and dancing. The word has been adopted by belly dance communities world wide as an occasion to share dances in an inclusive, supportive setting. At the Abbey Studio Hafla you can expect to see a variety of dance styles including; fusion belly dance, Romani 'Gypsy' dance, Persian dance, women's traditional dances, contemporary, ballet, flow arts, aerial silks and more.
